September 6th - Back-to-School!

Proudly sponsored by Honest Tea, Relay Foods, Zipcar, and Think Local First DC, the DC MEET Market will be celebrating Back-to-School on Saturday, September 6th! Our next market is jam-packed with a pop-up library from the DC Public Library, a live art installation by Kelly Towles, and DIY craft activities led by Topaz and Arrow! With live music by School of Rock, DJ vANNIEty, and Harry Ransom, all presented by Rock-n-Romp, there will also be a pig roast prepared by the owner of DC’s top-rated restaurant, Toki Underground and communal marketplace, Maketto. In addition, the market will showcase over 40 local vendors selling their goods from home décor, handcrafted jewelry, accessories, and prepared foods!

Our market happily accepts Think Local First's new LOCALIST Card! A $15 card gets you exclusive access to special experiences and events, deals and offers from vendors throughout the city. The DC MEETMarket is proud to be the first local outdoor market to accept the LOCALIST Card. To purchase your card, please visit http://thinklocalfirstdc.com/localist

In honor of Banned Books Week, the DC Public Library (DCPL) will be featuring a pop-up library where market-goers can view and check out books at the market. Kelly Towles, one of DC’s top artists, will be collaborating with the DCPL with a live art installation. His paintings will later be displayed at “UNCENSORED: Celebrating Freedom of Expression,” a temporary public art event at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library that asks artists to explore the concept of censorship with an emphasis on the freedom to read, express and create. UNCENSORED will take place from September 21- 27, 2014.

Local DIY workshop maven's Topaz + Arrow will be showing kids how to create their own personalized and fun bookmarks to get them excited about the new school year! Topaz + Arrow is a lifestyle resource for the art and design-driven community in the Washington, DC area. Through communal craft sessions and engaging workshops, Topaz + Arrow will cover the DIY of personal style, home décor, dinner parties, weddings, and more, while infusing the handmade into a curated and creative lifestyle.

Owner of DC’s top-ramen restaurant, Toki Underground and soon to open communal marketplace, Maketto, Erik Bruner-Yang will be preparing a live pig roast for market-goers to enjoy. As a critically-acclaimed chef, Bruner-Yang will add his special touch to make for a delicious barbecue.
